Purpose: Vegetation is important because it tells which plants and trees are around the body of water. It can show the diversity around the body of water, which is a sign of a good ecosystem. The vegetation in a standing body of water is important because the oxygen in that area comes from photosynthesis.

binder (preferred)

How to conduct the test: Get off of the bus with your paper on top of your binder and pen in hand. Look around the designated area and look for types of vegetation. Once a plant is spotted, get out the vegetation packet and identify what the plant is. Then record on the piece of paper. Repeat 5 to 6 times. Tell the information to the record keepers.

When you return to class: There is no extra work needed after finding the vegetation and identifying it at the body of water.

Typical findings: Certain types of vegetation are common. These findings show how certain ecosystems are similar but also diverse in their own way.
